Using Open Below Rooms in Chief Architect X3 and Prior Versions

Reference Number: KB-00050 Last Updated: 10-04-2013 06:21 AM

The information in this article applies to Chief Architect X3 and prior:

Chief Architect Premier or Chief Architect Interiors or Chief Architect Lite

DESCRIPTION

A room marked as Open Below in my plan has a floor instead of an opening to the floor below.

CAUSE

The Open Below room may be seen by the program as an independent building, separate from the rest of the plan.

In Chief Architect X4 and newer, the program will automatically connect "island" rooms to the rest of the structure by generating an invisible wall or room divider.

RESOLUTION

To make the program recognize the Open Below room as a room within the larger plan, make sure that at least one of the walls defining this room is attached to another wall in the plan.

To attach a room to the rest of the plan

  1. Open the Chief Architect plan in which you having difficulties creating an Open Below room.

  2. Select Build> Wall> Invisible Wall  from the menu and draw an invisible wall connecting one of the walls forming the Open Below room to a wall of another room.

  3. Select Build> Structure> Rebuild Walls/Floors/Ceilings  from the menu or press the F12 on your keyboard.

  4. To see the results, select 3D> Create Perspective View> Floor Overview  from the menu.

Your room defined as an Open Below will now correctly display a blank area, instead of the same flooring material as defined by the room around it.
