QUESTION

How do I rotate an elevation after it has been sent to a layout sheet? The elevation is already on my layout, I just want to be able to select it and rotate it.

ANSWER

While they can be resized or moved, 3D views such as elevation views cannot be rotated on a layout page.  If you would like an elevation view to be rotated, convert it to a CAD Detail, rotate it and then send it to layout.

To rotate a 3D layout view

  1. Select 3D> Create Orthographic View> Cross Section/Elevation  and click and drag a camera arrow to create the desired view.

    • In Chief Architect X1 and prior versions, from the menu select 3D> Create Vector View> Cross Section/Elevation .

  2. In the Cross Section/Elevation view, select CAD> CAD Detail from View  from the menu.

    • CAD Detail from View, often referred to as View to CAD, automatically converts your image into a line drawing and places this drawing in a CAD Detail window.

    • This CAD Detail window also opens automatically, allowing you to perform any needed editing.

  3. With the Select Objects  tool click and drag a selection marquee around the detail.

  4. Find the triangular rotation edit handle of the selection field, your cursor will turn into a  when you mouse over it, click drag that rotation handle until the view is set to the desired orientation.

  5. Select File> Send to Layout  from the menu.

  6. In the Send to Layout dialog, specify the desired drawing scale for this view and the layout page that you would like to send it to, then click OK.
