QUESTION

Whenever I open a new drawing and begin to work, all of the terrain tools, including the road tools, are not accessible - they are greyed out in the toolbar and from the Terrain menu.

Why is this and how do I remedy the situation?

ANSWER

Before you can use the terrain tools to create terrain objects, you must add a terrain perimeter to the drawing. The terrain perimeter provides Chief Architect with an area terrain objects can be placed in, and then you can create the terrain to your specifications.

To use the road tools within Chief Architect

  1. On Floor 1, add a terrain perimeter to your plan from the menu by selecting Terrain> Create Terrain Perimeter .

Only one Terrain Perimeter can exist in a plan. If this option is greyed out, then you already have a Terrain Perimeter in the file, although it may be on a different floor than you are currently viewing.

  2. Once a terrain perimeter has been created, you can add roads and other terrain objects.

  3. For example, to add a road, from the menu select Terrain> Road> Straight Road  and drag from left to right to create a new road on the plan.
