QUESTION

When I try to send a view to layout, I keep getting this error message:

"The line weight scale in your layout is not the same as in the view being sent to layout. You should change them to be the same or the resulting line weights will be lighter or heavier than expected. This can be corrected in the Drawing Sheet Setup dialog."

Why is this?

ANSWER

This warning message appears when the Line Weight Scale setting for a view being sent to layout is not the same as the Line Weight Scale setting for the plan file. In order to produce predictable, accurate printed drawings, it is necessary that the Line Weight Scales be identical in both the layout file and in the original view sent from the plan.

To clarify, many views in Chief Architect are line-based, and each line in such views has a particular thickness, or Line Weight. We can define Line Weights either by object or by layer, and we do so by typing a number for this value, such as 25.

"25 What?"

If a value of 25 were associated with a dimension line, we would need to know what unit of measurement is being used in order for the dimension to be useful to us. The same holds true for Line Weights. In order to know what a Line Weight of 25 actually means, we need to know the Line Weight Scale.

By default, all Chief Architect plan and layout template files use a Line Weight Scale of 1 = 1/100 mm.

This means that a Line Weight of 25 results in a line that is 25/100 mm thick.

To change the Line Weight

  1. From within your plan file, from the menu, select File> Print> Drawing Sheet Setup

  2. In the Drawing Sheet Setup dialog for the plan file:

    • Under Advanced Line Weight Options, make sure that the checkbox is NOT selected.

    • Make a note of the value and units listed under A line weight of.
Recall that by default, all current version Chief Architect plan and layout template files use a Line Weight Scale of 1 = 1 / 100.0 mm.

    • Click Cancel to close out of the dialog without making any changes

  3. Open your layout file, or activate it if it is already open, and follow the same procedure to select File> Print> Drawing Sheet Setup

  4. Make a note of the A line weight of value and units listed.

  5. Compare the A line weight of values and units between the plan and layout to determine whether the plan, or layout, is incorrectly set, and then correct that value in the appropriate Drawing Sheet Setup dialog so that both match.

  6. Once your .plan file and the .layout file both have the same line weight set, you will no longer receive this warning message.
