QUESTION

I have dual monitors and would like to use Chief Architect on both. How can I do this?

ANSWER

Some items within Chief Architect, notably dialog boxes and the Library Browser, can be moved outside of the overall program window by simply clicking and dragging their title bars to the desired location.

  • Dialogs always return to their default location within the program window the next time they are opened.

  • The Library Browser 'remembers' where you put it and returns to that same location the next time you open it. You can restore its default location by clicking the Restore Position/Size Defaults button on the Library Browser panel of the Preferences dialog.

Unlike dialogs or the Library Browser, view windows such as those for floor plan view, 3D views and CAD Details cannot exist outside of the larger program window. You can, however, stretch the Chief Architect program window across multiple monitors.

To stretch the program window across two monitors

  1. Launch Chief Architect and click the Restore Down button located at the top right corner of the program window, right beside the close button.

  2. Click and drag the side of the Chief Architect window nearest your secondary monitor until the window stretches as far as you need it to into the second monitor.

  3. You can now tile different view windows within the program on two different monitors.

The next time you launch the program, it will be located in its default location on your primary monitor.
