QUESTION

I need to create an octagonal object, such as a custom countertop, for a special application in one of my projects.  What is the best way to accomplish this?

ANSWER

Using the Regular Polygon CAD tool, you can quickly and easily create a regularly shaped closed CAD object, then convert it into a variety of 3D objects, including a Custom Countertop.

To create a regular polygon countertop

  1. Select CAD> Boxes> Regular Polygon  to display the New Regular Polygon dialog.

    • You can draw a regular polygon based on the length of a side, or the length of the radius to a vertex or a side.

    • Select your options in the New Regular Polygon dialog and click OK.

  2. Click in your plan to place the polygon.

  3. Use the Select Objects  tool to select the CAD polygon, click on the Convert Polyline  edit button to display the Convert Polyline dialog, select Countertop, and click OK.

  4. Take a 3D Camera  view to see the results.
