QUESTION

Whenever I try to use the Round Pier or Square Pad tools, this message displays:

"Cannot create a pier away from a wall. Normally a pier is created under a foundation wall, which in this case can be called a grade beam."

What am I doing wrong?

ANSWER

The Round Pier  and Square Pad  tools are designed specifically to place piers under foundation walls and as a result, they cannot be used to place piers anywhere except under a wall.

If you need to place a pier or post that is not located under a wall, use the Slab  tool and then modify the shape and height of the slab as needed.
