The information in this article applies to:- Chief Architect X5

- Chief Architect X2
- Chief Architect X1
When I close my plan, a thumbnail file is created for the plan database. However, it is not for the floor I want - how do I create a thumbnail file for the floor that I would like to display?
When a plan is closed, Chief Architect will automatically save a thumbnail of the floor that was visible when the session was closed. For example, if Floor 3 was the current floor when the plan was closed, the thumbnail file that was created will show the plan view of Floor 3.
To create a plan thumbnail image
- Open the Chief Architect plan for which you would like to create a custom plan thumbnail image.
- Select Edit> Preferences
from the menu. On the File Management panel of the Preferences dialog:
In Chief Architect X2 and prior: Select Edit> Preferencesfrom the menu. On the General panel of the Preferences dialog:
- Check the box beside Enable in the Thumbnail Images section at the top right.
- Select either Small or Large thumbnail images. Large thumbnails produce higher-quality images.
- Click OK to close the dialog and apply your changes.
- Check the box beside Enable in the Thumbnail Images section at the top right.
- Open or create the view that you would like to use as your thumbnail for this plan. You can use the plan view of any floor in your plan or any 3D view.
- Select File > Save Plan Thumbnail
from the menu.
The current view will be saved as a .jpg file in the same directory on your computer as the plan file. This plan thumbnail image will display when the plan file is selected in the Open Plan File dialog and the Find Plan Wizard.
