QUESTION

Sometimes, when I select File> Send to Layout  from the menu, a message says, "No layout view or file was found. Would you like to create a new layout window and send this view to it?

Why does this happen?

ANSWER

This message will appear only in a specific set of circumstances, specifically:

  • When you try to send a view to layout;
  • No layout file is currently open; and
  • The program is unable to find a layout file with the same name as the plan that you're trying to send a view from.

If you click Yes, the program will open a new layout file and automatically give this layout file the same name as the plan that you're trying to send a view to layout from.

If you have particular layout file that you want to send views to, you should instead click No

Then, select File> Open Layout  from the menu and open the layout in question. When the desired layout is open, you can send views to it.
