QUESTION

How do I create a beam?

ANSWER

There are three types of beams you can create in Chief Architect:  floor, ceiling and roof beams.

To create a floor/ceiling or roof beam

  1. Open the plan in which you would like to add a floor/ceiling beam or a roof beam.

  2. From the menu, select Build> Framing> Floor/Ceiling Beam  or Build> Framing> Roof Beam .

  3. Once you have selected the appropriate menu item, your mouse will turn into a small cross and you will be able to click and drag inside your structure to create the beam.

    • If you draw a beam outside of your structure, it will be drawn as a generic framing object rather than a beam.

    • Remember the floor framing is drawn on the floor below the floor in question.  If you want to draw a floor beam for Floor 1, draw this object on Floor 0.
