Troubleshooting Hardware Lock Issues

The information in this article applies to:
  • Home Designer Pro
  • Chief Architect X5
  • Chief Architect X4
  • Chief Architect X3
  • Chief Architect X2
DESCRIPTION

I just got a new computer, or upgraded my operating system, and now my hardware lock isn't working.  One of the following error messages appears when I try to launch Chief Architect:

  • HASP Device Driver Installing the Device drivers failed. Failed to start the Aladdin Device Driver. Failed to start a service in the Service Control Manager Database

  • No Appropriate Hardware Lock Was Found

How do I resolve this issue?

Warning: If your version of Chief Architect is running on an unsupported operating system, following the steps in this article may not resolve the issue.

If you do not know which versions of Windows that you particular version of Chief Architect is supported under, then please see Article Number 23: What operating systems does Chief Architect run on?

Chief Architect X2 and newer versions utilize Software Lock Security by default, instead of a hardware lock security device.  For information on this type of security, see Article Number 937: Chief Architect Software Lock Security

RESOLUTION

Downloading and installing an updated hardware lock driver may resolve this issue, if you are running your version of Chief Architect on the version of Windows that it was designed to run on.

Note: This Article will be using Internet Explorer 9 to perform the download. If you would rather use a different browser, please see your browser's support on downloading files from the internet.

To install the new driver

  1. In your Windows Control Panel, access Uninstall or change a program.

Depending on the View you are in, you may see Programs and Features instead.

  2. Search for the HASP Device Driver or Sentinel Protection Installer, depending on your version of the hardware lock.

    • If found, click on the HASP Device Driver or Sentinel Protection Installer, and select Remove or Uninstall.

    • If the Device Driver is not found in Uninstall or change a program , proceed to step 3.

  3. Click the link below to go to the latest drivers page for your hardware lock, then download the latest driver in the list:

    SafeNet Sentinel:

    Aladdin HASP:

    • For this hardware lock you need the Sentinal HASP/LDK Windows GUI Run-time Installer.

    • In the File Download dialog, click the Open button.

    • Double-click the .exe file inside the Compressed (zipped) Folder that you just downloaded. You will be prompted to Extract all or Run the files contained in the zipped folder. Choose Run

    • If you continue to receive the No appropriate hardware lock message, restart your computer and try again.
