I created a cathedral ceiling in my plan and would like to specify the material that displays on this ceiling. How do I do this?
There are a couple of ways to specify the material for a ceiling surface.
Regardless of the type of ceiling, you can quickly and easily assign a material to it using the Material Painter tool. To learn more, see How to use the Material Painter modes.
If you wish to specify a specific material or restore the default material, however, the steps vary slightly depending on the type of ceiling that you have created.
To specify the ceiling material of a standard, flat ceiling:
You can specify the material of a standard flat ceiling created automatically by the program in the Room Specification dialog for the room in question.
- Click the Select Objects
button, then click in an empty space in the room in which you would like to change the ceiling material.
- With the room selected, click the Open Object
edit button.
- On the Materials tab of the Room Specification dialog, click on Ceiling Covering in the list on the left, then click the Library Material button.
- In the Select Library Objects dialog, browse and select the desired ceiling material.
- If you wish to restore the default material, select Use Default from the top of the tree list.
- Click OK to close this dialog, and again to close the Room Specification dialog, and apply your change to the ceiling.
Note: If you check the box beside Use Above Floor's Platform for Ceiling in the Floor Defaults dialog for the current floor, the ceiling material that you select will be applied to the ceiling in all rooms on this floor.
To specify the material of a cathedral ceiling:
Cathedral ceilings are created by not building the standard, flat and instead using the bottom surfaces of the roof planes above the room.
- Click the Select Objects
button, then click on a roof plane above the room in which you would like to change the ceiling material.
- With the roof plane selected, click the Open Object
edit button.
- On the Materials tab of the Roof Plane Specification dialog, click on Ceiling in the list on the left, then click the Library Material button.
- In the Select Library Objects dialog, browse and select the desired ceiling material.
- If you wish to restore the default material, select Use Default from the top of the tree list.
- Click OK to close this dialog, and again to close the Roof Plane Specification dialog, and apply your change to the ceiling.
To specify the material of a vaulted ceiling:
Vaulted ceilings are created by not building the standard, flat and instead manually drawing ceiling planes using the Ceiling Plane tool.
- Click the Select Objects
button, then click on a roof plane above the room in which you would like to change the ceiling material.
- With the roof plane selected, click the Open Object
edit button.
- On the Materials tab of the Ceiling Plane Specification dialog, click on Ceiling Surface in the list on the left, then click the Library Material button.
- In the Select Library Objects dialog, browse and select the desired ceiling material.
- If you wish to restore the default material, select Use Default from the top of the tree list.
- Click OK to close this dialog, and again to close the Ceiling Plane Specification dialog, and apply your change to the ceiling.
