Whenever I search the Library Browser for a symbol, my results usually have a lot of materials in them which makes it difficult to find the item I'm looking for. How can I search for just symbols, and not materials when I use the Library search feature?
Depending on how much library content you have imported or customized, the tree list in the Directory Pane can be very large. You can control what content displays in the list using Library Filters.
Library Filters do not remove content from the library database. They do, however, affect the library Search: unless you check Include Filtered in the advanced Search options, library content that is not displaying is not included in your searches.
To create a Library Filter
- Select Library> Library Browser
.
- Click on the Manage Library Filters
button locate near the top of the Library Browser.
- In the Manage Library Filters dialog
- Give your filter a Name: such as No Materials.
- Select the catalogs that you wish to hide in the Library Browser.
For our example, we will uncheck the CoreMaterials.calib, as well as all of the Manufacturers that consist of Materials. - When you are done, click OK to apply the changes.
- Give your filter a Name: such as No Materials.
- You can now use the drop down menu at the top of your Library Browser to activate a filter, and items from the selected catalogs will not be displayed in the search results.
Note: If you have materials in your custom User Catalog, these will still be displayed in the search results. - Choose Not Filtered from the drop down menu if you want to be able to browse and search the entire Library Browser again, rather than just filtered results.
