QUESTION

How do I create an 'L' shaped structure with three full gable ends automatically?

ANSWER

A reverse gable, sometimes called an opposing gable, is perpendicular to the main gable roof.  A reverse gable can join the main roof anywhere along the main roof.  In this example, it joins the main roof at one end.

To build a reverse gable roof

  1. Select Build> Wall> Straight Exterior Wall  from the menu, then click and drag to draw the walls for your L-shaped structure in a clockwise fashion.

  2. Extend the baseline wall through the bump-out of the L.

  3. Select Build> Wall> Break Wall  from the menu. Click to place a break in the wall where the baseline wall meets the gable.

  4. Flag each of the gable end walls (marked in yellow in the image below) as Full Gable Wall on the Roof tab of that wall's specification dialog.

  5. Pull the baseline wall's end back to its original location.

  6. Select Build> Roof> Build Roof  from the menu to oepn the Build Roof dialog.

    • Alternatively, you can double-click either the Roof Tools  parent tool or the Roof Plane  child tool to open this dialog.

  7. Click in the Build Roof Planes check box and click OK to build the roof.

  8. Select 3D> Create Perspective View> Full Overview  from the menu to see the results.

In Chief Architect X1, use 3D> Create Render View> Render Full Overview.

To open a wall's specification dialog, select the wall, then click the Open Object  edit button that displays at left. On the Roof tab select Full Gable Wall and Click OK.
