By default, Chief Architect will place a roof on the top of the highest story in your structure. For example, if you have a two story structure, an automatically created roof will be placed on the second floor. You can, however, specify that the top floor be ignored when the roof is created. 


To place an automatic roof on the floor below the top rather than on the highest floor in the structure.

1. Open the two-story plan to which you would like to add a roof.
   
   
   
2. From the menu, select Build > Roof> Build Roof  to open the Build Roof dialog.
   
   
   
3. On the Roof tab:
   
   
   
   
   • Check Ignore Top (2nd) Floor.
   
   
   • Check Build Roof Planes.
   
   
   • Specify the desired pitch, overhang depth, or other information as needed.
   
   
   • Click the OK to build your roof.
   
   
   
4. Notice that the roof planes do not display on the top floor in floor plan view, but are instead displayed on the floor below.
   
   
   
5. To confirm that the roof planes you created rest on the floor below the top floor, create a 3D view by selecting 3D> Create Perspective View> Full Overview .
   
   In Chief Architect X1 and prior, use 3D> Create Render View> Render Full Overview.
