I see a grid in the drawing area in floor plan view. Is it possible to rotate this grid?
The Reference Grid is a visual reference that helps you judge distances while drawing in floor plan view. The grid itself is not able to be rotated, however your view of the grid--and everything else in floor plan view--can be rotated using the Rotate Plan View tool.
To use Rotate Plan View
- Open the plan that you would like to rotate the Reference Grid in, and select Tools> Rotate Plan View
from the menu.
- In the Rotate Plan View dialog that displays:
- Enter the number of degrees by which you would like to rotate your plan. This value can be positive or negative, and can be specified as either a decimal or fraction.
- For example, if you want to rotate your plan by 90°, type the number 90 in the Rotate By field, and click OK.
- The Rotate By value is a state rather than a command, so opening the dialog and typing 45° twice will not rotate the model 90° - it will only rotate it 45°.
- Enter the number of degrees by which you would like to rotate your plan. This value can be positive or negative, and can be specified as either a decimal or fraction.
While it is not possible to rotate either the Snap or Reference Grids without also rotating the model, the reverse is not true. There are a couple of different ways that you can rotate your drawing with affecting the grids.
To use Edit Area to rotate the plan without rotating the grid
- To utilize this method, you need to be able to see your entire model, and you may need to zoom out. To view your entire model, from the menu select either Window> Fill Window
or Window> Zoom Out
. You might need to select Window> Zoom Out
more than once to display the entire plan.
- With the entire model visible in floor plan view, select Edit> Edit Area> Edit Area (All Floors)
. Your mouse will turn into a crosshair which you can use to click and drag a marquee around your entire model - everything that you want to rotate.
- When your mouse button is released, edit handles will display for the selected area: the square handle in the center of the marquee is the Move handle; while the trianglular handle is the Rotate handle.
- Place your mouse over the top of this triangle, and your cursor will turn into a circular arrow. Click on the Rotate handle and drag in a circular motion to rotate the model around its center. When the model is in the desired position, release the mouse.
To use Transform/Replicate Object to rotate the plan
The second method of rotating a plan uses both the Edit Area (All Floors) and Transform/Replicate Object
tools.
- As with the second method, you need to be able to see your entire model, and you may need to zoom out.
- Select Edit> Edit Area> Edit Area (All Floors)
from the menu. Your mouse will turn into a crosshair which you can use to click and drag a marquee around your entire model - everything that you want to rotate.
- When the entire area is highlighed by the marquee, click the Transform/Replicate Object
edit button to open the Transform/Replicate Object dialog.
- Place a check in the box beside Rotate and enter the number of degrees that you would like to rotate the model in the Angle field.
- Click the OK button to close the dialog and rotate your plan the specified amount.
