QUESTION

I have drawn a set of straight stairs and would like to know how I can curve them.

ANSWER

In Version X1 and later, straight stairs can easily be curved - or curved stairs, straightened - using the Change Line/Arc  edit button.  Simply select the stair section in question and click this edit button.

Stairs can also be curved or straightened using their edit handles.

To curve straight stairs:

  1. Open a plan file in which you would like to curve a straight staircase, or select File> New Plan  from the menu.

  2. Select Build> Stairs> Straight Stairs  from the menu, then click and drag to draw a run of straight stairs.

  3. Click the Select Objects  button, then click on the staircase to select it.

  4. Click on either the bottom or top edge edit handle, hold down the Alt key on your keyboard, and drag the edge in any direction to curve the stairs accordingly.

    • Instead of holding down the Alt key, you can instead click and drag using the right mouse button.

The Alt key and right mouse buttons are shortcuts for the Alternate edit behavior. If you would like to enable this edit behavior for the left mouse button, select Edit> Edit Behaviors> Alternate  from the menu.
