How to Use AutoCAD Fonts

QUESTION

I have a number of fonts that I have used with AutoCAD in the past, and would like to know how to make use of these fonts with Chief Architect.

These fonts have a number of different names and a file extension of .shx.

Can I use any of these .shx fonts in Chief Architect?

ANSWER

AutoCAD can use two different kinds of fonts: Native AutoCAD SHX (compiled SHape) fonts and Windows TTF (TrueType) Fonts.

Unfortunately, it is not possible to use .shx fonts in Chief Architect, as these fonts are used exclusively by AutoCAD.

Chief Architect can, however, make use of .TTF (TrueType) fonts, and .FON (Non-True Type) fonts. Before Chief Architect can use them, they must be installed in the Fonts folder within your Windows operating system.

A list of fonts that can currently be used in Chief Architect can be found in the Fonts folder within the Windows Control Panel.


To access the Windows Control Panel

  1. Select the Windows Start button, then Control Panel.


  2. Once the Control Panel is open, double-click on the Fonts folder to open it and view the currently installed fonts that are ready for use in Chief Architect.

    • In Windows Vista and 7 this folder can be found in the Appearance and Personalization section of the Control Panel


  3. To install a new font that can be used in Chief Architect or any other program on your computer, open the Fonts folder and from the menu select File> Install New Fonts.



For assistance in installing new fonts on your computer, from within the Fonts folder select Help> Help Topics. This will present the Windows Help Files that will assist you in Font installation.
