QUESTION

Whenever I open a new drawing and begin to work, all of the terrain tools, including the road tools, are not accessible - they are greyed out.

Why is this and how do I remedy the situation?

ANSWER

Before you can use the terrain tools to create terrain objects, you must add a terrain perimeter to the drawing. The terrain perimeter provides Chief Architect with an area terrain objects can be placed in, and then you can create the terrain to your specifications.

To use the road tools within Chief Architect

  1. First, add a terrain perimeter to your plan from the menu select Terrain > Create Terrain Perimeter .

Note: Typically your Terrain Perimeter should be created on Floor 1.

  2. Once a terrain perimeter has been created, you can add roads and other terrain objects.

  3. For example, to add a road, from the menu select Terrain> Road> Straight Road  and drag from left to right to create a new road on the plan.
