Both door and window labels are set to display, but only window labels are visible.

DESCRIPTION

I made sure that both the door and window labels are set to display in my plan, but the door labels are missing.  Only the window labels display. Why is this?

RESOLUTION

There are several factors that affect whether door labels display.

  • The "Doors, Labels" layer must be turned on in the active layer set.

  • Each door must have Suppress Label unchecked in its specification dialog.

  • The Default Window Level must be 0 (zero).

To display the "Door, Labels" layer

  1. Select Tools> Display Settings> Display Options from the menu.

  2. In the Layer Display Options dialog, make sure that the "Doors, Labels" layer has a checkmark in the Disp column.

To see if door labels are suppressed

  1. Click the Select Objects  button, then click on a door to select it and click the Open Object  edit button.

  2. On the Label tab of the Door Specification dialog:

    • See if Suppress Label is checked.

    • If it is checked, click to uncheck it and then click OK.

    • The door's label should display now.

  3. If all of your doors have Suppress Label checked, the setting is likely selected in your Door Defaults dialogs.  To fix this so that doors placed in the future do not have this option set:

    • Select Edit> Default Settings  from the menu, then click the + beside "Doors" to expand the category.

    • Select each of the subcategories under "Doors" in turn and click the Edit button.

    • Confirm that Suppress Label is unchecked and click OK.

In Chief Architect, Window Levels allow you to organize and control the display of stacked units in floor plan view.  Objects on non-default Window Levels appear pale in color and do not display their labels. Windows can be placed on any Level; however, doors are always on Level 0.

To set the Default Window Level to 0

  1. Select Edit> Default Settings from the menu, click on "Windows" in the tree list, and click the Edit button.

  2. On the Options tab of the Window Defaults dialog, set the Vertical Stacking Level to 0 and click OK.

    • In Chief Architect X1 and prior, this setting was located on the General tab.
