Dimensions print smaller than they display on the screen. What's going on?
To change automatic and manual dimensions to display the same size they will print, change the default Minimum Display Size.
In Version X3 and later, this setting is a global Preference setting, affecting all plan and layout files.
In Version X2 and prior, it was a file-specific default setting.
To change the minimum display size for dimensions in X3 and later
- Open any Chief Architect plan or layout file and select Edit> Preferences
from the menu.
- On the Appearance panel of the Preferences dialog, change the Dimensions size under the Minimum Display Size heading to 0 pixels, then click OK.
- Setting the Minimum Display Size to 0 pixels lets you see the numbers on-screen at the printing scale, so you can better predict what they will look like printed.
- Setting the Minimum Display Size to 0 pixels lets you see the numbers on-screen at the printing scale, so you can better predict what they will look like printed.
To change the minimum number size for dimensions in X2 and prior
- Open the Chief Architect plan or layout file in which you would like to change the minimum number size for dimensions when printed.
- Select Edit> Default Settings
from the menu. In the Default Settings dialog, click on the word "Dimension", then click the Edit button.
- On the Setup tab of the Dimension Defaults dialog, change the Min. Number Size to 0 then click OK to close the dialog and apply your change.
- Setting the Min Number Size to 0 lets you see the numbers on-screen at the printing scale, so you can better predict what they will look like printed.
In Version X2 and prior, Dimension Defaults settings are file specific, which means that each plan and layout file has its own independent defaults. In addition, in any plan file, you can set the Dimension Defaults for floor plan view, each cross section or elevation view, and each CAD Detail window differently. To access the Dimension Defaults for a particular view, simply open the dialog while that view is active.
Beginning in Chief Architect X3, Dimension Defaults continue to be file specific but are no longer view specific. Instead, dimensions are among the objects that can be included in Annotation Sets. To learn more, see article 1167 in this Help Database: How to set up my own Annotation Set and import it into an existing file.
