How do I determine the area and volume of a room's conditioned space?
Conditioned space is heated and cooled areas of the structure, and it is calculated in volume and area. Here is one procedure you can use to determine the area of conditioned space:
To find the area of a room
- First, select the room you intend to measure with one left mouse click.
- With the room selected, click the Make Room Polyline
edit button. A polyline that follows the inside surface of the room is created and is selected.
- With the polyline selected, click the Open Object
edit button.
- On the Polyline tab of the Polyline Specification dialog, make a note of the Area (which is also the area of the room), and then click the Cancel button.
To find the volume of a room
- With the polyline still selected, click the Convert Polyline
edit button.
- In the Convert Polyline dialog box, click the radio button beside Slab and then click OK.
- On the General tab of the Slab Specification dialog, which opens next:
- In the Thickness field, enter the value of the ceiling height of the selected room.
- For example, if the ceiling height of the room is 97 1/8", enter 97 1/8".
- Press the TAB key on your keyboard to update the dialog without closing it.
- In the Thickness field, enter the value of the ceiling height of the selected room.
- Next, go to the Polyline tab and make a note of the Volume of the slab, (which is also the volume of the room).
- When you have obtained the volume of the room, click the Cancel button.
- With the slab still selected, click the Delete
edit button or press the Delete key on your keyboard to remove it from your model.
