QUESTION

How do I use the Next Command and Previous Command hotkeys?

ANSWER

The Next and Previous Command hotkeys let you toggle between recently used tools without using the menu or toolbar buttons.

You can navigate a list of up to 100 recently used tools using the Cancel Selection/Previous Command, Next Command and Previous Command hotkeys. The tools in this list are organized according to the order in which you selected them during the current program session.

By default, the Cancel Selection/Previous Command is assigned to the Esc key. This command can be used to:

  • Cancel a current object selection.

  • Cancel a current drawing or editing action that is in progress.

  • Activate the previously used tool or command if no object is selected or action in progress.

Note: Pressing the Esc key more than once will cycle through the tools you have previously used.

By default, Next Command is assigned to the Shift+Esc keys. This command can be used to deactivate the current command and instead activate the one that is next in the list of recently used tools.

If you prefer, you can assign two different hotkeys to the Cancel Selection and Previous Command instead of one single hotkey.

Note: Cancel Selection/Previous Command, Next Command and Previous Command are hotkeys only: they do not have toolbar buttons associated with them and are not found in the menu.
