Construction Documents and CAD Project Online Training
Scope
Chief Architect’s Construction Documents and CAD tools Project is a six hour Second-Level (intermediate) Online Seminar designed to expand the experienced user’s knowledge and skill pertaining to the use of CAD, the creation of details, and transferring that information to construction documents. An existing multi-level residential plan is incorporated for use in our Construction Documents and CAD lessons seminar.
Requirements
- A high speed Internet connection
- Internet Explorer web browser
- A telephone near to the computer
- Attendees need to have completed a Jump Start online training, a field Introductory Training Seminar or obtain Instructor approval
- A licensed copy of Chief Architect X1

Content
This training is designed to help the student develop a broader understanding of Chief Architect’s CAD and Layout tools, and teach the skills necessary to design in CAD and to send information to the Layout. In this class, we will:
- Reinforce the need for a common-sense, thoughtful approach to drawing and creating plans with Chief Architect. Re-examine file management and the necessity to keep plan and layout files together.
- Understand and set CAD defaults, preferences, and specifications. Examine CAD tools and snaps. Discuss in detail, CAD edits. Use CAD to create Symbols.
- Learn the intricacies of Text, Text defaults and Text specifications.
- Add Notes and Legends
- Learn to draw in CAD for effect, create Details, and send to Layout.
- Create a Layout Template and set print options for Plan and for Layout
- Develop a clear understanding of Layers and Layer sets, Active layer set control, Active CAD Layer, Layer Set Management and Layer Set Defaults.
- Use Layers and Layer Sets to control information sent to Layout.
- Learn to create and manipulate Schedules and Labels. Edit using Components.
- Examine Chief’s Material List to understand its functionality.
- Explore Import and Export and Print options.
Upon completion of this training course, students should have a good understanding of CAD, Layers, Layer Sets, and Layouts and should be well on their way to creating their own set of construction documents.
