Terrain and Deck Project Online Training
Scope
Chief Architect’s Terrain and Deck Project is a six hour Second-Level (intermediate) Online Seminar designed to increase the experienced user’s knowledge and skill pertaining to Terrain, Decks, Landscaping, and Plot-mapping. An existing multi-level structure will be incorporated for use with these design tools and concepts. A plot plan is created from surveyor information and from imported dwg files that include elevation information. Manually created plots are edited with elevation information for several different building pad needs.

- Attendees need to have completed a Jump Start online training, a field Introductory Training Seminar or obtain Instructor approval
- A licensed copy of Chief Architect X1

Content
This training is designed to help the student learn Chief’s Terrain tools, and teach the skills necessary to create a plot map, design landscapes, create topography and import terrain data. In this class, we will:
- Reinforce the need for a common-sense, thoughtful approach to drawing and creating plans with Chief Architect. Re-examine file management and the necessity to keep plan and layout files together.
- Understand and set CAD defaults, preferences, and specifications. Examine CAD tools and snaps. Discuss in detail, CAD edits.
- Examine and learn to manipulate elevation data using the various terrain modifier tools.
- Use each of the Terrain tools to explore and manipulate terrain, and to determine which tools to use dependant upon the particular needs of the plan.
- Create and examine the intricacies of decks and their unique relationships with the terrain, stairs and advanced deck framing.
- Create a gazebo, a portico, and a polygon deck.
- Create a terrain hole and install a window well.
- Create a Swimming pool
- Understand import and export as it pertains to terrain and plot-mapping.
- Learn about default lighting, adding lighting, and creating shadow studies.
Upon completion of this training course, students should have a good understanding of Terrain and how to manipulate it with Chief Architect. The student should be comfortable creating decks, stairs, gazebos and terrain features. They should be able to place roads, sidewalks, and driveways, and should have a fair understanding of the process of importing terrain, creating a plot map, and creating a plan footprint.
