Using a Bluetooth Measuring Device with Room Planner

QUESTION

I have a Bluetooth Laser device. Can it be used to accurately position the walls in a Room Planner drawing?


ANSWER

To connect successfully with a Bluetooth measuring device, you will need an iPad 3 or newer, an iPhone 5 or newer, or if you are using an Android device, the device must support Bluetooth LE or newer.

You must also be using one of the following Bluetooth measuring devices;
Leica: D2, E7100i (D110), E7500i (D510), D810, S910.
Bosch: GLM 50c, 100c

To Connect a Bluetooth Measuring Device to Room Planner on an iPad

  1. Power On both the Bluetooth measuring device and the iPad that has Room Planner installed. If Room Planner is open, please close it now.


  2. On the iPad, tap the Settings icon to open the native Apple Settings application.


  3. On the left hand side, look for and tap the Bluetooth option to open the Bluetooth Settings, and then tap the green toggle on the right to turn the functionality on.

    Do not pair your device in the iPad settings. Continue into Room Planner to pair your device.



  4. Next, open the Room Planner Room Planner Logo application and tap the Settings Settings cog wheel icon in the top right corner.


  5. Select the Bluetooth Measuring Devices option at the bottom of the Settings menu to open the Bluetooth Devices dialog.

    You should see the Bluetooth device in this list with an orange check mark next to it.

    If your device does not have this check mark, tap the device's name, after which you may receive a Bluetooth Pairing Request dialog in which you will want to choose the Pair option.

    Note: If your iPad or iPhone does not meet the requirements for connecting to a Bluetooth measuring device, instead of seeing this Bluetooth Devices dialog, you may see a dialog informing you that your device does not support Bluetooth LE. Such devices will not work with Room Planner and Bluetooth measuring devices.



  6. Once the devices have been paired and you see an orange check mark next to the Bluetooth measuring device, tap the Done button.


With the devices connected, we are ready to begin taking measurements.

To Connect a Bluetooth Measuring Device to Room Planner on an Android

  1. Power On both the Bluetooth measuring device and the Android device that has Room Planner installed. If Room Planner is open, please close it now.


  2. On the Android device, tap the Settings icon to open the native Android Settings application.


  3. Tap the Bluetooth option to open the Bluetooth Settings, and then tap the toggle on the right to turn the bluetooth functionality on.

    The device will start scanning for Bluetooth devices that are within range and your Bluetooth measuring device may show up here. Do NOT connect the Bluetooth measuring deviceto the Android device at this time.



  4. Next, open the Room Planner Room Planner Logo application and tap the Settings Settings cog wheel icon in the top right corner.


  5. Select the Bluetooth Measuring Devices option at the bottom of the Settings menu to open the Bluetooth Devices dialog.

    You should see the Bluetooth measuring device in this list. Tap it once to connect Room Planner to the device.

    Note: If your Android device does not support Bluetooth LE, instead of seeing the Bluetooth Devices dialog, you will receive a message informing you that your Android device does not support Bluetooth LE. Such devices will not work with Room Planner and Bluetooth measuring devices.



  6. Once the devices have been paired and you see an orange check mark next to the Bluetooth measuring device, tap the Done button.


With the devices connected, we are ready to begin taking measurements.


To Use the Bluetooth Measuring Device with Room Planner

  1. Navigate to the plan you want to use the Bluetooth measuring device with.


  2. Tap the wall you'd like to move, and then tap the blue dimension box that is adjacent to the selected wall to bring up the keyboard along with an input line.

    Note: Some Bluetooth measuring device's will not require the keyboard to appear. If you tap a blue dimension box and the keyboard does not appear, continue with the steps below ignoring mention of the keyboard.



  3. Using one of the Bluetooth measuring devices that are supported with Room Planner, take a measurement by pressing the ON/DIST button on the Bluetooth measuring device.

    The new measurement that was gathered from the Bluetooth measuring device should override the value that was originally set for the dimension.


  4. Tap the Accept or OK button in the top right corner of the keyboard to confirm the measurement taken with the Bluetooth measuring device and the keyboard will close.

    As you can see in the example below, the measurement taken with the Bluetooth measuring device was 10' 4".

  5. Continue this procedure for each wall you'd like to measure out using the Bluetooth measuring device.

    A Bluetooth measuring device can be used to take measurements for walls, window, and door openings, along with a variety of other architectural objects that can be placed within Room Planner.
