QUESTION

I would like to know how to reassign the arrow keys from nudging to being used to pan the view.

ANSWER

By default, in Chief Architect X2 and newer, you can use your keyboard to move a selected object or objects by single snap grid increments in 2D and 3D views.

In floor plan view, the arrow keys are programmed to nudge a selected object by default; however, you can program different buttons for nudging instead.

To nudge an object in floor plan view, select it and press any of the four arrow keys: Up, Down, Left, or Right.

To pan the drawing window

In Chief Architect X2 and newer without modifying your hotkey configuration, you can choose to either:

  • Use the middle mouse button to pan, or
  • Hold down the Control or Shift keys in conjunction with the arrow keys to pan the view.

To customize the Hotkeys

Alternately, if you would prefer to assign the Up, Down, Left and Right arrow keyboard buttons to their old Chief Architect X1 and prior functionality of just panning the view, you can do so by following the steps below.

  1. First, launch Chief Architect and choose to Open  a plan, or start a New Plan .

  2. Select Tools> Toolbars and Hotkeys> Customize Hotkeys .

  3. In the Customize Hotkeys dialog, in the space provided beneath Show commands/hotkeys containing, type the keyword of nudge.

  4. Once the Nudge commands are displayed, you can select a command, such as "Nudge Down in 2D views" to highlight it, and then either choose to:

    • Click on the Remove button to remove the hotkey assignment altogether, leaving the Down arrow to only pan while in 2D views. Or,

    • Edit hotkey for this command - Click in this field, then press the key combination that you would like to use, and click Assign to create a different hotkey for the Nudge feature.

For the purposes of this example, we will reassign the Nudge Down in 2D Views hotkey to require the Alt key on the keyboard to be held down in conjunction with the Down arrow to perform this command.
