QUESTION

In 3D views, some of my exterior walls display sheetrock instead of lap siding. I'm using the correct wall type, and have not used the Material Painter. Why is this, and what can I do to correct it?

ANSWER

The wall layers may be reversed. This is primarily caused by drawing the walls in a counter-clockwise direction.

Exterior walls in Chief Architect should usually be drawn in a clockwise direction. Doing so directs the program to place the exterior wall surface, such as siding, brick or stucco, on the outside of the structure and sheetrock or other interior surface material, on the inside.

If you draw a wall in the wrong direction in error, the program may automatically align it if its adjacent to an existing room. If it doesn't, use the Reverse Layers tool to correct it.

If you want to prevent the program from automatically reversing wall layers, you can turn off the default setting controlling it.

To reverse wall layers

  1. Using the Select Objects  tool, click on a wall with layers that need to be reversed.

Select the walls that need to be reversed.

  2. Click the Reverse Layers  edit button.

  3. Repeat this process for any remaining walls in the plan that need to be reversed.

To turn off automatic wall reversing

  1. Access your Default Settings by going to Edit> Default Settings.

  2. In the Default Settings dialog go to Walls> General Walls and click Edit.

  3. Uncheck Auto Reverse Wall Layers and click OK
