QUESTION

In 3D views, some of my exterior walls display sheetrock on the exterior of the structure instead of lap siding. I'm using the correct wall type and have not used the Material Painter. Why is this occurring?

ANSWER

The wall layers may be reversed. This is primarily caused by drawing walls in a counter-clockwise direction.

Exterior walls in Chief Architect should be drawn in a clockwise direction. Doing so directs the program to place the exterior wall surface, such as siding, brick or stucco, on the outside of the structure and sheetrock or other interior surface material, on the inside.

If you draw a wall in the wrong direction by mistake, the program should automatically reverse it. If the wall layers don't reverse automatically, you can use the Reverse Layers edit tool to correct it.

If you want to prevent the program from automatically reversing wall layers due to specific design requirements, you can turn off the Auto Reverse Wall Layers setting. This may be useful for specific 'T' Intersections between three walls; however it's recommended to leave this setting enabled in most situations. If you're instead experiencing issues with how walls are connecting to each other, see the Related Articles section below.

To manually reverse wall layers

  1. Using the Select Objects  tool, click on a wall with layers that need to be reversed.

Select the walls that need to be reversed.

  2. Click on the Reverse Layers  edit button.

  3. Repeat this process for any remaining walls in the plan that you would like to reverse.

To turn off automatic wall reversing

  1. Navigate to Edit> Default Settings.

  2. In the Default Settings dialog, expand the Walls category, select the General Wall option, then click Edit.

  3. In the General Wall Defaults dialog, uncheck the Auto Reverse Wall Layers box, then click OK and Done
