I would like to know the correct procedure for creating a wine rack or plate rack in a cabinet using Chief Architect.

Both a wine rack and plate rack are easy to create using the Specialty Storage items in the Cabinet Specification dialog. .

To create a wine rack

  1. From the menu, select Build> Cabinet> Wall Cabinet  and click in the plan to place the cabinet.

  2. Once you have added a cabinet to your plan, you can convert it into a wine rack or plate rack by clicking on the Select Objects  tool, then select the Open Object  edit button to display the Wall Cabinet Specification dialog.

  3. Select the Door/Drawer panel:

  • Click on the Library button to the right of Style and in the Select Library Object dialog that displays, navigate to Cabinet Doors, Drawers, & Panels> Specialty Storage> Wine Rack w/ Bottles, and click OK.

  • If your wall cabinet currently has a handle or knob, use the Door Handle Style drop down menu to change it to None

  • Next, select the the Front panel in the Wall Cabinet Specification dialog and under Door/Drawer Overlay, move the radio button to the Inset option.  This will make all door and drawer faces flush with the cabinet face, instead of overlaying it.

  • Using the preview of the cabinet that displays in the dialog, click to select the Wine Rack "door" as the current face item.

  • Set the Item Height to 4" and add additional doors until the entire cabinet is composed of Wine Rack w/ Bottles, as shown in the image below.

  • If desired, you can go to the Materials panel to update the materials used for the cabinet, including the Bottles and their Labels, then click OK when you have completed making modifications to the cabinet.
