Live Views on Layout Appear Blurry

QUESTION

Some of my live elevation views on the layout appear blurry, fuzzy, pixelated, unclear, or distorted.  What causes this, and how can I correct it?


ANSWER

Live Views are a new option introduced version X8.  They can be set to Update on Demand or Update Always and use the Color setting and the Rendering Technique in use in the original view.

On screen, Live Views set as Update On Demand can become blurry looking - particularly if you zoom in and out or pan around the layout page.


Note: Live Views update automatically before printing so you should see no problems in a printed layout or PDF.


To update the view

  • You can zoom in on the individual Live View, select it, then click on the Update View  edit button, and the view's on-screen appearance will improve.



  • Alternately, selecting Tools> Layout> Update Layout Views> Update All Live Views , will minimize that appearance, and these views should be just as crisp as a Plot Lines view.

  • If you prefer the appearance and updating behavior that you saw in version X7 and prior, you can instead send your elevation views to layout as Plot Lines.  Plot Line views always use the Vector View Rendering Technique, and you can specify whether a view displays color or not in the Layout Box Specification dialog.



    Both Plot Lines and Live Views are options in the Send to Layout dialog, however, Plot Line views do not automatically update when printed, nor can they be set to update automatically.
