Pivot Door Leading to Interior of House

ANSWER

Pivot doors can be created by using manual design techniques, including the usage of doorways, converting doors to fixture symbols, and working with advanced edit behaviors.

Creating a pivot door

  1. Place a doorway by going to Build> Door> Doorway   and clicking in the location you want the pivot door to be.

In this example, the doorway has been created to be 60" wide, 96" tall, and will serve as the frame for the pivot door.

  2. Access your Library Browser , locate and select your desired door object, then place it in a wall right beside the doorway.

In this example, we used the "SC03 Glass Door" from the Core Catalogs.

  3. Select  the newly placed door, then click on the Convert Selected to Symbol  edit tool.

  4. In the Convert To Symbol dialog that opens:

    Convert To Symbol dialog

    • Specify an appropriate Symbol Name.

    • Set the Symbol Category to Fixture (Exterior).

    • Check Add to Library if you'd like to add the door symbol to the User Catalog for future use, then click OK

  5. The newly created symbol will now be following your cursor; click in an empty space near the doorway to place it in the plan, then resize it to match the doorway.

  6. Select  the door object, then use the square Move  edit handle to move the object. You will need to temporarily disable snap settings to allow the door object to be placed within the doorway in this instance, which can be done by holding down the Ctrl/Command key on your keyboard while moving the object.

  7. To rotate the door around a pivot point, you will first want to place a reference point; navigate to CAD> Points> Place Point  and click in the location where you want the door object to rotate around.

  8. Navigate to Edit> Edit Behaviors , then enable the Rotate/Resize About Current Point  behavior.

  9. Select  the door object located within your doorway, then use the Rotate  edit handle to rotate the door object to your liking.

If you have difficulty selecting the door object, press the Tab key or the Select Next Object  edit tool to cycle between objects that are in the same location until the door object is selected.

  10. Finally, return to the standard rotation behavior by going to Edit> Edit Behaviors> Rotate/Resize About Current Point

You can also delete the reference point that was placed by navigating to CAD> Points> Delete Temporary Points .

Note: Keep in mind that the pivot door and doorway are independent objects. If you move or edit one, you must update the other as well.
