I have a CAD detail, and would like to be able to use it in more than one plan. How do I add it to the library?

The Chief Architect library includes a selection of detail drawings but you can save additional drawings of your own in the User Catalog to be used in future projects.

To create a CAD block and add it to the library

  1. Select Edit> Select Objects Select Objects icon from the menu.

  2. Click and drag to draw a selection marquee around your detail, then release the mouse.

  3. Click the Make CAD Block Make CAD Block icon edit button to convert your selection to a CAD block.

If you do not see the Make CAD Block edit button, then check to make sure your detail does not contain any architectural objects. Only CAD, images, text, and dimensions can be converted into a CAD block.

  4. Select Edit> Select Objects Select Objects icon from the menu and click once on part of your detail to select it. If the conversion worked, you should see the entire detail become highlighted by the selection fill instead of just the piece you clicked on.

  5. With the CAD block selected, click the Add to Library Add to Library icon edit button to add the block to your User Catalog. You can now right-click on the block located in the User Catalog and choose Rename to give it its own unique name.
