Whenever I search the Library Browser, my results contain a lot of objects that I'm not looking for. How can I create a custom filter so only certain objects or catalogs appear when I perform a search?

Depending on how much library content you have imported, the tree list in the Directory Pane can be very large. You can control what content displays in the list using library filters.

Library filters do not remove content from the library database. They do, however, affect the library search. Unless you check "Include Filtered" in the advanced search options, library content that is set to be hidden will not be included when performing a search in the Library Browser.

To create a library filter

  1. If the Library Browser is not already open, navigate to View> Library Browser .

  2. Click on the Manage Library Filters  button located near the top of the Library Browser.

You can also navigate to Library> Manage Library Filters from the menu.

Selecting the Manage Library Filters button in the Library Browser

  3. In the Manage Library Filters dialog that displays:

    • Specify an appropriate name for the filter using the Selected Filter Name field.

In this example, we have created a filter called "No Materials".

    • Select the catalogs that you wish to hide when the library filter is active.

In this example, we have placed a check next to CoreMaterials.calib in the Chief Architect Core Catalogs column.

    • If you'd like to create additional filters at this time, select the New button located in the bottom left-hand corner of the dialog.

    • You can choose to immediately activate a filter using the Active Filter drop-down menu located in the bottom left-hand corner.

    • When you are done, click OK.

  4. If you would like to switch between filters quickly, you can also use the Active Filter drop-down menu located at the top of the Library Browser.

Choose Not Filtered if you want to be able to browse and search the entire Library Browser again, rather than just filtered results.
