I am using Traditional File Management, and I would like to quickly access a saved view, such as a plan view, cross section, CAD Detail, or layout page. How can I accomplish this task?
The Project Browser is a convenient way to access all of the views saved within a plan or layout when using Traditional File Management. This resource will discuss the following:
The Project Browser side window can be opened and closed at anytime by navigating to View> Project Browser from the menu.
The Project Browser displays a variety of panels, or panes, when using Traditional File Management.
*Applies to X17 and newer.
The Project Browser can be fully customized to your liking in X17 and newer; panels can be hidden, moved around, and adjusted to be a particular size, and the title bars associated with panels can be hidden.
To show/hide panels and title bars in X17 and newer, click on the Project Browser Panel Options icon or right-click in an empty area within the Project Browser. In X16 and prior, the Show/Hide Preview Panel
icon can be selected to toggle the display of the preview panel.
To move panels around in X17 and newer, drag the title bar associated with a panel around onscreen, and notice the panel will follow your cursor until you let go of the left-mouse button.
The height and width of a panel can be adjusted using the Splitter cursor that displays when hovering over the bar separating two panels; click and drag.
If you're using X17 or newer, you can reset the Project Browser's panels to their original configuration. To do so, access Preferences , click on the Project Browser panel, then click on Reset Panel Layout.
Located in the Project Browser is the Projects panel, which lists all plans and layouts that are open within the program. To open a file, navigate to File> Open Plan or File> Open Layout
.
Project files can be extracted and opened by navigating to File> Import> Import Project . To learn more about importing projects, please see the appropriate resource in the Related Articles section below.
Plan files that are referenced by another plan or layout will also appear in the Project Browser.
When working with plan and layout files using the Project Browser, familiarize yourself with the options that are available in the contextual menu when right-clicking on a file.
There are several subfolders located within plan and layout files, of which are associated with specific types of views. For plan files, this includes CAD Details, Cameras, Cross Sections, Floor Levels, Materials Lists, Plan Views, Schedules, and Wall Details. Layout files consist of subfolders for CAD Details, Pages, and Tables.
There are variety of options available in the contextual menu when right-clicking on one of these subfolders, as well as the views or items within these subfolders; however, they will vary between plan and layout files, as well as the type of views or items.
